Debora Benjamen

Founder and Director

Debora Benjamen is a Founder of Blue Carbon Tanzania (BCT) currently an International Climate Protection Fellow by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany. She has six years’ experience in mangrove restoration, blue carbon stock assessment, feasibility studies, policies and execution of blue carbon credit projects. Debora attended a two years’ interuniversity Master of Science in Marine and Lacustrine Science and Management at the Free University of Brussels (VUB), in Belgium majoring in environmental impact assessment (EIA), Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA), and Nature-based Solutions (NbS). She published on mangrove ecosystems specifically the role of restored mangroves for oxygen release and climate mitigation. She looks forward to collaborating with partners across the world to build the resilience of the mangrove ecosystems through restoration, building alternatives, and research to support local communities.

Frida Brayson

Progam Manager

Frida is a graduate of the University of Dar es Salaam in Applied Geosciences, she possesses skills on community engagement, assessing soil and other factors for successful mangrove restoration and project monitoring. She manages the community mangrove restoration projects and supervises data collection in feasibility studies for blue carbon credit projects. She participated in the Researching Social Theories, Resources, and Environment International Summer School (ResTore) 2022 at the University College Dublin (UCD) in Ireland, where she sharpened her community engagement skills and pathways to a more circular economy and climate mitigation. She looks forward to gaining more experience through interacting with actors within and outside Tanzania.

Joseph Sanga

Chief Finance and Accounting Officer

Joseph holds a degree from the Tanzania Institute of Accountancy (TIA) and over four years of experience in Accounting and Finance Management. He manages finances in project execution, ensuring they are conducted to meet the needs and expectations of funders and projects within the United Republic of Tanzania. He participated in several trainings relating to financing, fundraising and improving accounting practices for organizations, to achieve long-term and short-term goals.
